Why did Jesus come?

We were asked this in church yesterday (25 Dec)

We were asked to answer from three perspectives:

-from God's point of view....
-from the world's point of view....
-from my own point of view....

How would you answer?

And I suppose you want your answers to be without any Christian jargon as well! OK here goes:

1 God created a good world and human beings in it so that they could enter in to the relationship of love that had already existed since before time between Father Son and Holy Spirit. Then we cocked it all up! God's plan and intention has always been that creation should be renewed (not started afresh note) and that the relationship should be made new so that those people called into that relationship can be so close that it can be described as a marriage between Jesus and the church. (I leave out the theological mechanics of the how at this point).

2 From the world's point of view most people do not have a clue. From the church's point of view Jesus came to restore all that was lost and to be revealed as king and Lord.

3 From the personal point of view. I was lost and now I am found, I was blind and now I see. I am loved with a love that knows me for who I am and still loves me. A love that will never let me go or leave me. A love that will not shelter me from the sadnesses of life but will walk through them with me hand in hand.
I have begun to grasp that I am not a body that has an eternal soul but an eternal soul that has a body. Every one around us is already an eternal being in the process of developing into either someone of incredible beauty or someone of total horror (that last courtesy of C S Lewis). I know in whom I have trusted and am persuaded that He is able to present me perfect before my Father God. I have been chosen to walk in the dust of my rabbi, Jesus.

I think Paul has said it all really. Tell u what though, I'm really glad our Father was gracious and loving enough to sacrifice Jesus and send Him to us. And I'm so grateful that Jesus was obedient to his Father and came to this world. As for me, I just want to live each day in obedience to the Father and the Son, with the help of the Holy Spirit. Yes, Paul you have said it all. What a good rabbi you are too!

My own little pennyworth:

From God's point of view - John 3 :16. He sent Jesus because we had messed up like Paul said. The only way for that relationship to be back on course was for Jesus to come.

Why did Jesus come at Christmas - because that was the only way that Easter could happen. The sacrificial lamb had to be born like us, live like us and then die on our behalf. If he had just appeared like Dr. Who from the tardis then it wouldn't have worked.

His name says it all - Jesus = God saves

Luke 2:14 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

Jesus was not born to live. He was born to die that we might live

The World - they a haven't a clue! So busy looking for a Santa Claus that the Christ is missed.

Just as in Israel then - they were so busy looking for Messiah - and when HE came they missed him!

Me - There used to be little stickers everywhere saying "He came to pay a debt He didn't owe, because I owed a debt I couldn't pay"

Salvation, redemption - the jargon Paul talks about - what is it really. I was in a mess, I cried out for help, HE said "Here I am, come", and I did. Now I am in relationship with HIM and it is great Very Happy

Jesus would have still come even if I was the only sinner still alive. For me (even me), God had a purpose for dying.

Christmas and Easter are a package - if he had not been born we would have been hopeless - but if he had been born and yet had not died it would have been a worse catastrophe.

I have seen the saviour you have given to all people. Luke 2:30-31
