There are few, I think, that would argue that we do not live in a society that is marked out by its rampant individualism. Seen in some areas in cries for "human rights" but with little about "human responsibilities". And in others with growing interest in "spirituality" for which read "you can believe what you want as long as it doesn't impinge on me".

Are we infected with this same "virus"? Consider this from a highly [and rightly] respected Christian leader and pastor writing in response to the work of N T Wright [also highly and rightly respected]:

"What puzzles me is that Wright seems to be able to speak of the gospel without explicitly showing what makes it good news for me. If the death and resurrection and lordship of Jesus over the world is true, but not good news for me (saving me from and for whatever I need saving from and for), then how is it gospel?" [The Future of Justification p45 footnote 17 author's italics not mine]

Now I think I know what he is trying to say but have we really come to the point where we think the good news of Jesus' Lordship is only good news if it is good news for me personally? In other words the gospel is only good news if it is seen as such from our perspective not God's?
